introduction
Verdun will be a stand-alone game developed on the ground breaking unity3D engine. Verdun will combine epic team play centered first person shooter action with the never before seen battles of World War I.
Verdun has been in development since late 2006, where two computer science students decided to combine their powers to create a real game. For the past years, we have been extracting idea's and have created a lot of concepts of how we want to give shape to Verdun. Our inspiration comes from current titles, history, basic game principles and innovating gameplay concept brainstorming.
Locations
In Verdun a variety of locations will be offered. You will meet your opponent in the shell-torn landscapes which dominated the Verdun salient. Maps that are going to be added contain names like Cote 304, Mort Homme and Fort Vaux/Douaumont for the French/German 1916 campaign. Trench warfare will be the main theme of this campaign with claustrofobic close combat, nightly trench raids, and massive infantry charges. Indoor locations like Fort Vaux and Douaumont, as well as some destroyed villages will be featured.
Shaping World War I
Verdun will give shape to World War I for the first time in the history of games. There are no serious first person shooter game titles out on the market that focus on World War I. With Verdun we want to give a realistic point of view on the events of WWI combined with top notch team centered gameplay.
Working with people who have been doing research in WWI for years, literature, actual field trips and hobbyist archaeologists who know the battlegrounds by heart, we have gained serious knowledge about most aspects of WWI. This knowledge has allowed the Verdun team to create assets and gameplay concepts that give a realistic impression of the events and material of World War I.
Common knowledge of WWI has led to some misconceptions claiming that it would be boring to play due to the lack of weaponry or locations. Both of these, have proven to be rather superficial assumptions due to the extensive knowledge gained when developing this game. We have come to the conclusion that, just like the Second World War, this war had many faces.
